We are back in Canada after a very enjoyable and memorable stay in Korea.
Thanks to you, and also to Elly, everything went smoothly according to schedule.

Except for when we were in Gyeongju:  It rained the whole day that Monday Oct 22nd,
so we skipped the excursion to the Grotto.

Instead, Ms. Jang took us to have some Korean tea to warm us up in a very unique and artistic teahouse.
It was a very interesting experience.  If you happen to be in Gyeongju, you should check out this place. 
I am sure your future guests would appreciate a visit to this teahouse to taste a different kind of tea,
especially when the weather gets colder.

I safely arrived Singapore this afternoon and will be heading back to Brunei tomorrow morning. We ( my husband and i) enjoyed our stay in Korea. Though people in Korea are extremely warm, friendly and helpful, they may still not be able to communicate fluently with foreigners. That is where your support was extremely helpful. 남다른 애향심으로 영덕군민 '귀감' 이 희 '이투어리즘' 대표

영덕의 한 출향인이 서울에서 관광업계에 종사하면서 ‘외화 획득과 함께 남다른 애향심’을 발휘, 귀감이 되고 있다.

영덕군 영덕읍 남석리가 고향인 이 희(35.사진)씨가 주인공.

이씨는 지난 2004년 (주)더존에벤에셀투어에 입사한 후 태국에서 2년간 가이드 역할을 시작으로 관광산업의 안목을 길렀다.

이어 2006년부터 2007년까지 두바이 에미레이트 그룹 자회사 아라비안어드벤쳐스 회사에 입사, 한국인 부서 담당 팀장으로 파견 근무했다.

영어가 능숙한 이씨는 두바이에서 팀장으로 근무 당시 천안시청, 인천시청, 경남도청, 울산 중소기업 협회, 금호건설 등의 임원진 두바이 방문 행사일정과 안내 등을 도맡아하면서 능력을 발휘했다.

2009년에는 (주)오미트래블(구 자유투어인바운드) 구미주, 동남아시아 지역 팀장과 상품개발 및 마케팅 담당으로 외화를 벌어 들였다.

이씨는 동남아시아 지역 팀장 당시 서울시관광협회와 공조한 미국태권도협회(ATA)임원 한국방문 때 행사 진행을 맡기도 했다.

또 대한상공회의소가 주간한 베트남 중소기업 CEO행사 진행과 아시아 펜싱 챔피언게임 참가단 행사를 진행하기도 했다.

이씨가 외국인을 상대로 한 행사 진행은 여기에서 그치지 않았다. 2009년 한 해 동안만도 세계소방관대회 브라질 참가단, 한국관광공사의 프랑스 율리시즈 잡지기자 초청, 태국 리조트 판촉지배인 초청 로드쇼 진행 등을 주도했다.

뿐만 아니라 지난해는 (유)스카이항공 인바운드 외국인 유치 총괄 업무 진행을 맡으면서 전북도청 의뢰로 중국 공무원 행사 진행, 전주시청 의뢰로 주한 외국인 서울 관광 진행, 국제청소년스포츠 축제 스위스 참가단 행사 진행 등으로 지난 한해 30만 불의 외화를 획득의 성과를 거뒀다.

이처럼 관광산업에 견문을 넓힌 이씨가 지난달 30일 서울시 마포구 동교동 156-2의 마젤란 505호에 (주)이투어리즘이라는 회사를 설립, 외국인을 상대로한 본격적인 외화 획득에 나섰다.

정보기술의 혁명과 관광산업의 시너지 효과 창출을 추구하고 있는 이 대표는 자신의 사무실벽에 동해안 탐방로 영덕블루로드와 접한 창포해안마을과 풍력발전단지 사진을 확대 제작해 걸어두고 ‘영덕홍보’에도 일조하고 있다.

외국인 관광객 국내 유치를 목적으로 회사를 설립한 이 대표는 “기회가 주어지면 고향인 영덕에서도 외국인을 상대로 하는 행사를 자주 여는 것이 포부”라며 고향사랑 마음을 표현했다.
